Money Sucks

Sometimes, looking at expensive things makes me dream. Sometimes it makes me just feel dirty. Like, I know this won’t make me happy, and I can’t afford it anyway, and what are you thinking? Want want want.

And the economists and politicians keep shouting. Lie lie lie. Fight fight fight. Covering their asses, wanting, waiting, needing, wheedling, distorting. It just makes me feel so dirty to live like this.

I try to live below my means, just on general principle, not because I want to save up for something– just because I think that spending money frivolously is … well, just wasteful. I don’t like to see waste. Maybe I’m more stingy and cheap than I thought. I like to think of it as “fiscal prudence.”

  1. I am begining to suspect that money is deeply insidious, and that in using it at all you give up tremendous power and wisdom. Not only due to the formulations apparent in it’s design, (I mean the US dollar bill says right on it “our conspiracy” in latin and yet no one sees it, or cares), but also because in the act of using it or pursuing it you are telling yourself on a deep subconsious level that you can not provide for yourself without it, thus relieving yourself of the ability to be truly self sufficient (remember humans generally only use about 10% of their true potential – both mental and physical, not to mention our spiritual capabilities. How much more capable would we be, here and now, if we stopped putting our power into money and the pursuit of it).

Also, by using money you are buying into the whole corrupt system that is being manipulated by very dangerous people who know exactly what they are doing. Indeed in using the money you are giving these dangerous people all the power. More and more people are waking up to this knowledge, however many of them are weak and scared and they think “but I can’t live without money” or “but these long term plans of mine absolutely require money” or better yet “but I am using it to help others” but of course they can live without it, they can make new plans, and they can help others without it – they are more powerful then they know. However, they are simply terrified of giving up the material possessions which they have become addicted to. Scared of giving up their illusion of security. It takes some courage to overcome this fear but the rewards are great.

With more and more open source software projects, open source information projects, and now even open source material production projects (like the green bike project in Austin and many other cities). people are beginning to understand that we DON’T need money, that we can exist by doing what we enjoy and/or are good at and sharing freely the fruits of our labor. If everyone stopped using money this whole corrupt system would come to a grinding halt. It is unfortunate that people can no longer be counted on to do the right thing if it involves even the smallest self sacrifice – and this widespread, selfish disregard of personal responsibility is largely on account of money, the pursuit of the bottom line, and the competition it breeds. Humans are sort of special in that we can consciously alter our own mode of operation in the long term for non-reactionary reasons, and yet we choose to operate on this bogus survival of the fittest format. I say “bogus” because at this point we are not talking about “fittest” in any reasonable sense – it has boiled down to survival of the fittest mega-corporation (meaning the corporation with the best connections, most money and influence). This is deeply flawed because these factors are not determined in the least by who creates the best product, who treats people the best (employees and consumers), or even who has the “fittest” personnel. There are to many abstract influences in the market, stock holders, and institutions who don’t directly produce anything, who are pulling all the strings. The fittest corporation, with the fittest personnel, who produce the best product and treats people the best out of all their competition can easily fail entirely due to some moron far away who pulls a few strings and produces nothing. In our current situation the fittest can easily fail and die because of the insidious machinations of money, and because our definition of fitness has become quantitative rather than qualitative and it is tied in with money rather than ability – Someone born with money is automatically more fit than someone with nothing who has developed their abilities far beyond the rich spoiled brats who control the system now (excuse my petty name calling).

We the people, must wake up. The people at the top who have control, hold sway over the masses with the illusion of power. They have no real power unless we freely give it – We hold all the cards, we make the choice as individuals to give them power – is it now, not clear as day that they are excessively abusing that power? (I suppose it is less clear to those who have enough shiny, bright toys to blind them to the truth, and those who really want to keep their toys can easily rationalize their behavior, especially since everyone else is doing it). We must take responsibility, individually to walk away from this corrupt system and accept whatever consequences that brings. I personally am willing to die for what I believe in, I will not sacrifice my integrity for anything of this world. I would sacrifice myself for my integrity in a heartbeat – this attitude makes giving up money easy and even a great relief. You, though, may be pleasantly surprised by how well everything works out for you and how much happier you are by giving up money. Think about trading your services and skills for whatever supplies or assistance you need rather than for money – but it is amazing how often whatever you need will simply fall into your lap when you stop worrying about it.

Remember, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Currently we are locked into this system with seemingly no escape, but in truth the way is barred only by your own fear. That is what those people at the top are counting on… Your fear. Give that up and then you truly will be free.

    AUM

PS. I encourage you to make copies of this essay and distribute them as you see fit – however, I would ask that you not alter the contents of this essay in any way – If you have something else to say, then write your own essay. Oh yeah, and do try to be kind to your fellow humans, it means a lot to them. Try not to judge them harshly but rather to understand their situation and perspective, they are on their own paths. You can share knowledge with them, and live as an example, but they must come to their own wisdom in their own time so have patience, you can not force them, for it will only force them away. Oh and I could be wrong about everything, for my perspective is limited by my experience.
