The flag over the statehouse today looked to be at half-mast this morning. I immediately thought of Ted Kennedy, but he’s apparently doing fine. Maybe the flag-raising team just got cold and skipped a few feet?

It’s gotten to the point where we have to run a little blurb every morning in the paper telling people whether to fly their flag at half staff. Here in New Mexico, it’s usually another Iraq or Afghanistan casualty that does it. I notice it, one way or the other, every single morning on the big flags in the middle of Albuquerque’s central freeway interchange. Reminders of war are unpleasant, but not a bad thing, I think.
